Special Exhibition: Namie Town and the Path to Reconstruction

Namie was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami, then evacuated in its entirety after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. This exhibition traces how the town has made its way back from that compound disaster: everyday objects from before 2011, records of the evacuation, the then mayor's hand-written emergency plan, the relocation of the town office to Nihonmatsu, the lifting of evacuation orders and the return of residents, and current redevelopment around Namie Station. Artifacts, photographs, models and relief maps tell the fifteen-year story, and a 5 m × 3 m floor map shows elevation and the radiation levels recorded around the plant just after the accident. Runs until autumn 2026 (closing date to be announced). Included in admission to the permanent exhibition (¥600 adults, ¥300 students).
