From the Collection — An Age of Dreams: Media and People in the Shōwa Era

2026.08.01 〜 2026.09.27

HistoryDesign

A collection exhibition marking one hundred years since the start of the Shōwa era in 1926. Through works held by the museum, it traces what people longed for, and the part the media played, as Japan moved from wartime through post-war recovery into rapid economic growth. Four strands: Sōji Yamakawa, the picture-story artist behind Shōnen Ōja and Shōnen Kenya, who spent his last years in Sakura; Macoto Takahashi, who drew frontispieces and illustrations for girls' magazines; Shigeo Nagashima, the baseball star born in Sakura, including works from his own collection newly acquired by the museum; and Masuo Ikeda, who moved between printmaking, fiction and film. Admission free. Open 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30), closed Mondays and 24 September.
