Tsunemi Imamura, Illustrator: Longing for Edo — 30 Years On

A retrospective marking 30 years since the death of Tsunemi Imamura (1909–1996), an illustrator born in Sakura who was known for period fiction — above all Seishi Yokomizo's Ningyō Sashichi Torimonochō. After illness ended his career in book illustration, Imamura began calling himself an Edo painter, and for years supplied pictures of Edo manners and customs to rakugo theatre programmes and local magazine covers. The exhibition shows those original drawings alongside his fiction illustrations. Admission ¥800 general, ¥600 university students, free for high school age and under.
