Tracing 90 Years of the Seto Ceramic Art Association

2026.08.01 〜 2026.09.27

Crafts

Seto has made ceramics for over a thousand years. Modernisation after the Meiji era brought research into design and the idea that pottery could be raised to an art, and by the Taisho era groups of ceramic artists had begun to form. When Tatsukichi Fujii told the mayor of Seto that "art is the mother of industry", artists set aside their factions and founded the Seto Ceramic Art Association in 1936. Marking its 90th anniversary, this exhibition traces that history in three chapters through 125 works.
