Always on view

Performing ArtsFolkloreHistory

Much of Toyota City lies in mountain country, where kabuki has long been performed on village stages built in shrine precincts — 82 of them survive. Three preservation societies remain active, including Obara Kabuki, designated an intangible folk cultural property. The hall presents this tradition and the history of the Obara district, with open rehearsals and hands-on programmes on its central stage. Admission free.
