Hirado, Told Through Things: A Selection
2026.04.24 〜 2026.09.23
A selection of works from "Hirado, Told Through Things," the special exhibition held at the Kyushu National Museum until March 2026, brought back to Hirado itself. The Matsura Historical Museum is the oldest museum in Nagasaki Prefecture, holding materials passed down in the Matsura family, lords of Hirado since the Kamakura period. The building is the Tsurugamine residence, built in 1893 as a private Matsura home. Beyond maritime trade, the collection covers Christianity in Japan, exchange with foreign countries, and the holdings of the Rakusaidō, a museum-like facility founded within Hirado Castle by the Edo-period lord Matsura Seizan. Open 8:30–17:30; closed 29 December – 1 January.
